July Meeting

Tuesday was SMAC's hot and muggy July meeting. We had a good turnout despite the sultry weather; thank you to everyone that came. The most notable decision made at the meeting was the addition of two more night flying events to the club calendar: July 16th and 30th (these are on the official SMAC event calendar).

One of the more important items discussed was the completion of the Recreational UAS Safety Test by members as required by the Federal Aviation Administration. Links to the test and additional information can be found on this website in one of the previous posts and on the AMA website. Members- make sure to get your certificates as this is required by current law.

In other news, Chad is working out the details for float flying off a private pond!! Yeah, FLOAT FLYING. More info to come...

Also, its's official; the classic SMAC crest is to remain the club's symbol. Thanks to Joe F. for updating the design.

After the meeting concluded, the flight line was buzzing with air traffic. Check out the photos from tonight's event.

A full flight line and no mishaps...talented RC pilots.

Danny gives Rick a hand with his giant-scale Taylorcraft. Check out the huge three-blade prop; Rick says the appropriate two-blade prop won't clear the ground!
Rick S. prepares to take off with his FMS Corsair. Unfortunately,  gremlins had invaded his model. Every RC aircraft hobbyist has had days like this.

Helpful club members look over Rick's Corsair. It turned out that a faulty brand-new battery was the culprit for the failed take-off.

Rick B. doing a low inverted pass with his Taylorcraft. Every evening  is an airshow when Rick is flying. Seriously, if you want to see some impressive flying, come out to our field!

Chad N.'s Ultimate biplane. Sweeeeeet. Right?

Jim's mini-Waco next to Kurt's Waco. RC aircraft come in all sizes.

Rick S. and Rob C.'s F4U Corsairs awaiting action. Rick's larger model on the left represents a 1950's era F4U-4, while Rob's is a WW2 era F4U-1A. Rick B. and his giant Taylorcraft are in the background.

How is this for a diverse assemblage of model aircraft- a PBY Catalina. After several squirrelly, nail-biting attempts, Rob found the right formula for a smooth takeoff from the grass.

Dave readies his Decathlon. This is a model Dave purchased at a swap meet for a decent price, and it was well-worth the money.

Rick helped Danny tune his DLE gas engine. By the end of the evening it was running better than ever.
