Rob's Yankee Lady sits on the flight line after another successful mission. The sound of the four electric motors has a presence in the air, but nothing beats the rumble of four radial engines! |
Although the wildfires burning in the western portion of the country have shrouded the flying field in a haze for the past several days, the evening weather has been great for flying. We've had planes in the air every evening so far this week. On Saturday, several of our members braved the pop-up rain showers and attended the fly-in at Brookville:

Highlights from the past three days at SMAC field:
Danny preps his P-39 for takeoff. Two great flights...one disastrous landing approach due to a gravity anomaly. |
Mike is a pro at flying this model. One word– smooth! He's going to be flying its 50cc big-brother soon! |
Donnie doing touch-and-go's with his Artizan. |
Ken preps for flight with his backseat instructor. |
Danny's old Tower Hobbies Hellcat. It survived a hard bounce the night before to fly again the next day. These were great model airplanes– too bad they are discontinued. |
Rob's P-61 Black Widow...err. Green Widow? This is modeled after the early production airplanes that were painted in olive drab and lacked a dorsal gun turret. Despite its unconventional appearance, the model is a graceful, fast, and easy-landing airplane. |
Mike makes a low pass with his Eflight Timber. |
A nice low, inverted pass by an electric-powered P-51b...guess who is the pilot. |
Danny's Escapade rolls toward the flight line after a trial run. The DLE engine had some tuning issues that Rick and Danny sorted out. With this type of two-cycle gas engine, the grade of gasoline, type of oil, and the ratio of gas-to-oil have a significant effect on the engine's performance.
Special Note: Thanks to Jim R. for giving the field a fresh cut! GREATLY APPRECIATED BY ALL

Are you a hobbyist looking for a place to fly, or wanting to get into flying model aircraft? Come out to the SMAC field on our scheduled flying days- Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 PM, or Saturdays at 10:00 AM (When the weather is agreeable, of course).
We usually have some interesting models in the air, and welcome spectators and hobbyists wanting to fly, as long as you have a current AMA registration. We welcome all types of models, and pilots of all skill levels.
Our 900' runway and open flying area is one of the best flying fields around, and you couldn't ask for a better group of people to hang out with!
