Friday NIGHT Flying!

The weather was perfect for SMAC's first night flying event of the season. How can you beat low 70's temperature, 5 mph wind, freshly-grilled hotdogs, and friends to hang with? Check out the photos!

Jim and Kurt stand on the flight line early in the evening, taking full advantage of the beautiful weather.

This Parkzone Corsair was spotted at the field bearing a mark that's recognizable to most Springfield-area RC aircraft hobbyists. Your aren't cool unless you have a plane owned by Joe Cool!

A few Dynam Wacos, including Kurt's new bright red model.

Jim preps his Buzzard Bombshell for flight...

...and sits back and pilots the Bombshell as it rides the winds aloft.

Guess who is piloting this model?

Kurt hauls his red Waco out to the flight line. And no. He wasn't the pilot of the inverted model.

Dave serves up grilled grub to the hungry pilots. Thanks Dave! (No, Dave wasn't piloting the inverted model either.)

Nope. Neither of these guys is the pilot of the inverted model.

Chad is prepping his flying wing. You wouldn't believe the flying time he gets out of a battery pack. And again...nope, not the pilot of the inverted model.

This guy looks suspiciously like someone who flies upside-down most of the time!

Chad gets his gasser ready to fly...and chased down by a wee-little foam P-51 model!

The other Chad's (Foamie Ninja!) custom-designed flying wing.

"Look! That airplane is aways upside-down. What's the matter with it?"

There it is again!

Last flight of the evening for Chad's gasser. When the sun sets, the models with navigation lights come out.

Jim's Buzzard Bombshell comes home to roost for the evening.

Danny takes to the air as the sun sets, nav lights glowing on his vintage Parkzone Corsair.

The flight line is full as darkness falls. A great time had by all.

Are you a hobbyist looking for a place to fly, or wanting to get into flying model aircraft?  Come out to the SMAC field on our scheduled flying days- Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 PM, or Saturdays at 10:00 AM (When the weather is agreeable).  We usually have some interesting models in the air, and welcome spectators and hobbyists with a current AMA registration.
