Cool temps, no wind, aircraft of all types...a recipe for a fun evening. If you like aircraft, SMAC field was the place to be on Thursday evening in the Miami Valley.
The pattern was full of aircraft throughout the evening. Gas, electric, and even the odd-bird nitro plane shared the airspace. |
Mike brought out the big brother to his other "Wild Hare" model for its first flight. The maiden flight went off without a hitch, as expected. |
Kurt brought a brand-new Turbo Timber to the field as well as his FMS P-40. He can really grease a landing with the P-40! |
Rob's Liberty Belle B-17G completed five missions deep into soy-controlled territory. The Belle is six feet wide and can purr down the runway at a walking pace with the flaps down. |
Flight School. Want to learn how to fly a model? We have club-owned training models and plenty of experienced pilots that enjoy helping others. You just need an AMA membership and a SMAC new-pilot membership (equivalent to the price of one nice dinner out...CHEAP FUN). |

WILD THANG! Three minutes of pure adrenaline! The radar gun couldn't clock it when it was going all-out...probably because it's small, and flying a bazillion feet-per-second. Rick B. did a series of aileron rolls that was close to five rolls-per-second, and managed to yank the elevator in the right direction coming out of the maneuver. Pure skill. YOU can build this airplane in week!!! |

Dr. Balsa attends a patient. |
The star attraction of the evening: Rick B.'s giant Pitts Challenger. This is a big model airplane: 1/3rd the size of the full-scale aircraft! |
Rick makes one of many inverted passes with the big Pitts biplane. |
The Pitts in a knife-edge maneuver. Unfortunately for you– the web site viewer, cameras can't sufficiently capture the crazy things Rick can do with this plane. When he brings it to the field, it's an airshow; a jaw-dropping experience that you can witness by coming out to our field on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. He might not have the Pitts Challenger, but rest assured, he'll put on a show with whatever airplane he has brought to the field! |
Are you a hobbyist looking for a place to fly, or wanting to get into flying model aircraft? Are you an aircraft enthusiast looking for something neat to watch? Come out to the SMAC field on our scheduled flying days- Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 PM, or Saturdays at 10:00 AM (When the weather is agreeable, of course).
We usually have some interesting models in the air, and welcome spectators and hobbyists wanting to fly, as long as you have a current AMA registration. We welcome all types of models, and pilots of all skill levels.
Our 900' runway and open flying area is one of the best flying fields around, and you couldn't ask for a better group of people to hang out with!
