NIGHT FLYING...and the highlights from a fabulous Thursday

NIGHT FLYING CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER
CHECK THE CALENDAR FOR NEXT NIGHT EVENT

Thursday: It was a little windy as the gang arrived at the field this evening, but it became calm as the sun set. How about this for a variety of aircraft: giant-scale P-51 and Spitfire gassers, electric Waco and Stearman biplanes, a P-39 Reno Racer, "Wild Thing" scratch-built combat plane...and then some! Check out the photo highlights:
Notice anything odd? Rick B.'s P-51 was out of action early in the evening.
Rick helps Chad start Her Royal Majesty's Fighter.

Good Show Ol' Boy! You really put it to the Gerry's!

Oh dear...engine failure? By Jove whomever worked own that engine is getting a stern reprimand...and no tea either! Luckily, the skilled pilot settled the bird down without incident. Nicely done!

Dr. Barch and his ample support team. Chad...I hope you have good insurance...The good doctor doesn't come cheap!

Danny puts another flight on his Multiplex Weekender. The intermittent wind gusts and thermals were making the early-evening flying a little dicey for small models. The wind settled down and the thermals disappeared at sunset.

The "Little Plane That Could" aka "Wild Thing" made a comeback after FRYING its speed controller Wednesday evening. New esc, and new motor after a visit to Radical RC. Maybe we should have a vote on who launched it with more style...Mike, or Chad?

Holy scorched speed controllers, Batman! Did you see that? That pass was on a 3-cell battery...and it can take a 4-cell...INSANE!!! Click on the square-shaped icon in the lower-right to enlarge the video to full-screen...you'll need it to see the blur of Rick's model. You can find out more about the Wild Thing model by clicking HERE.
In second place for tonight's speed challenge was Rob's FMS P-39 (retracts up and ready to be hauled home). It was no slouch in the speed department, but couldn't match Rick's Wild Thing!

And that's how it goes at SMAC...hanging out, flying models, and having a good time.
