May Test Flying!

 Weather has caused a slow start to the flying season, but a few members gathered at SMAC Field after breakfast May 9 to watch Rick B. perform the maiden flight on this P-51.  The model started as a Top Flite ARF but has been stripped and refinished as Bob Hoover's "Old Yeller".  Power is a DLE 55cc gas engine, retracts are Robart pneumatic units.

Rick says the model required very little trim adjustment.  The engine appears to provide plenty of power for realistic maneuvers.  Unfortunately an air leak kept him from exercising the retracts.

Don't forget the SMAC Invitational fun-fly Saturday June 6!  Flying begins at 9 AM and goes until after lunch.  Hopefully the weather will moderate so we can all get some practice beforehand.
