July Meeting and Flying
SMAC's July meeting was held Tuesday July 1 at the flying field. After a weeklong heat wave and monsoon-like rains the clouds finally parted and the sun shone with near calm winds. Unfortunately standing water on the east end of the field limited the numbers who chose to fly.
Jeffrey J. flew both his gas powered P-51 and glow powered Stuka.
Rick B. gave us a good exhibition of the tight turning capabilities of his 1/4 scale Fokker D.VII, low and slow.
Unfortunately the stickiness of the wet grass resulted in several nose-ups, fortunately with no significant damage.
And then there was the guy with the old beater foamie glider who threw a prop blade while climbing. The shock was so violent the wings came out of the saddle, and he could only watch helplessly as the plane spiralled down into the standing water on the runway. Fortunately the ground was so soupy that the nose just got wrinkled a little.
SMAC's next meeting will be Tuesday, Aug 5, at the field at 7 PM. Don't forget the Barnstorming Carnival at Springfield Airport, July 12-13.
