Dawn Patrol Rendezvous at Springfield Airport
After many years at the National Museum of the USAF, Dawn Patrol Rendezvous was held at Springfield Airport for the first time this year. Despite strong winds (especially in the afternoons) the event was well attended by both full scale and model fliers.
SMAC was well represented with Rick B, Chad N, and Jim R flying. Richard B generously provided the use of his quarter scale planes, and a number of other members attended as spectators.
Rick B. nearly stole the show with his Fokker D.VII (topline photo). Chad was also quite active with both the Fokker D.VIII and Nieuport 28. Jim R. got some nice compliments on his spins with the Sopwith Pup and SE-5a. Unfortunately the winds were beyond the comfort zone of many other attendees.
Lots of interesting and colorful planes on display!
A good time was had by all, and reportedly the airport wants to make this an annual event!
It was a pleasure flying with you all this last weekend at the Rendezvous, and you all did some great flying despite some real challenging crosswinds. Already looking forward to the next edition of this event!! Lee McDuffee - RC Event Director
