Dawn Patrol Rendezvous at Springfield Airport

After many years at the National Museum of the USAF, Dawn Patrol Rendezvous was held at Springfield Airport for the first time this year.  Despite strong winds (especially in the afternoons) the event was well attended by both full scale and model fliers.

SMAC was well represented with Rick B, Chad N, and Jim R flying.  Richard B generously provided the use of his quarter scale planes, and a number of other members attended as spectators.

Rick B. nearly stole the show with his Fokker D.VII (topline photo).  Chad was also quite active with both the Fokker D.VIII and Nieuport 28.  Jim R. got some nice compliments on his spins with the Sopwith Pup and SE-5a.  Unfortunately the winds were beyond the comfort zone of many other attendees.

Lots of interesting and colorful planes on display!

This Italian Caproni bomber won Best of Show - not surprising when you look at the exquisite level of detail.  It also flew very well!

You've got to feel sorry for the poor tail gunner.  What an assignment...

A good time was had by all, and reportedly the airport wants to make this an annual event!
