How About a Five Piece Wing!

SMAC member Jim R. is working on his next scratch build.  It's a PZL P-11c, a Polish fighter aircraft built from RCM plans.

The most distinctive feature of this plane is its graceful gull wing.  Unfortunately, "graceful" and "easy to build" are often opposites.  Unless you want to build a special jig, this wing must be built in five sections which need to line up perfectly - or as perfectly as possible.

The spar is built flat on the board, with dihedral braces glued to one side of each joint.  Then the sections slide apart and each panel can be built flat, with the braces hanging over the edge of the board.

So far, things are working out - the fuselage will be a breeze compared to this!
