Spring is Here! (And so are the tanks!)
SPRING IS HERE! Yes it is folks.
Time to do the annual inspection on all your aircraft. Get out the log book and refresh your memory on which models need what. Check over all those controls and bits and make sure you have the transmitters and models set up properly. It is time to fly, baby!
Our intrepid (and a bit eccentric) band of brothers cheerfully exploited the burgeoning spring weather this afternoon (albeit one didn't bring the correct transmitter for his model...which really, really sucks). However, we had a good time...no...a GREAT time flying after the long winter hiatus!

Mike's Ohio Model Products Citabria can do an unlimited vertical climb! |
Rob's Great Planes Sport Mustang (RIP GP). This model flies great with a 4-cell Lipo. |
Then there's the tanks. Yes, I said tanks. No- not gas tanks or smoke tanks...I meant the kind that weigh a lot and have huge artillery guns. Yes, yes, yes...it's a model airplane club and all of that. BUT...a mention about model tanks: cool, fun, and did I mention cool?
Specifically, the 1/16th scale model tanks from Heng Long (not an endorsement) are detailed, sound awesome, and are a blast (ha ha) to operate. They shoot an airsoft 6mm plastic projectile over 90 feet. Metal tracks, working suspension, exhaust smoke, realistic sound...this is the ultimate in scale modeling when you can't fly. The price is comparable to an RTF foam airplane too.
Rob's Panther...looking for a particular broken-down Sherman reported somewhere in the vicinity. |
The tanks come with an infrared system that allows for tank-on-tank warfare. Something to consider for when the weather or other factor is unfavorable for flying. Perhaps if we get enough members with tanks we could have a battle at the field! Um...it would become a...battlefield!
There it is. Dave's Sherman. It's having a mechanical issue that the tank crew is working on. Watch out, there are Panther's on the prowl! |
Our March club meeting is coming up this Tuesday- 7:30 at the Asbury United Methodist Church on Rt. 41 in North Hampton.
