Dueling Bombshells
SMAC members Steve B. and Jim R. had a good time soaring with their Buzzard Bombshells Thursday morning Aug 29th.
Jim's plane (blue fuselage/red wings) was built from a kit in 2021.
Steve's plane (shown) has a long and interesting history. Neil Perkins built it back during SMAC's early years, probably in the early 1980's when Old-Timer competitions began. He sold it to Dave S, who passed it on to SMAC Treasurer Joe F. without the original engine. Neil won a new engine of the same type in a Christmas party raffle (probably in 1998). He sold the engine to Joe, who flew the Buzzard with it for several years.
Joe generously donated the somewhat tired looking plane to the club earlier this year. Steve restored it with new covering and converted it to electric power.
Steve says it's the best flying Bombshell he's had. His longest flight Thursday was about 50 min.
