August Club Meeting
SMAC's August meeting was held at the field Tuesday evening.
To avoid risk of a crop fire, the club voted to suspend turbine jet operations each year from September 15 until the adjacent fields have been harvested. The Safety Officer can adjust these dates in accordance with weather conditions. A Bylaws amendment will be forthcoming.
The Club also scheduled Night Fly events Friday Aug 9 and Aug 23. Flying will begin as folks gather and continue until full darkness. If you haven't been to one of these, they are fun to watch and even more fun to fly in!
The annual Club picnic was scheduled for Sunday Sept 8. Setup will begin about 9 AM with lunch served at noon.
A little flying got done before an approaching thunderstorm shut things down. Here's some of the action:
Rick B's Scimitar flying wing. The flat spin is unbelievable!
Chad N got Mike S's Aero Scout control problems fixed (plug in wrong channel) and it is trimmed up and flying well.
"Tower, this is Navy One Seven declaring an emergency. We have a stuck main gear..."
...and Ensign Chad pulls off a superb belly landing.
Rumor has it he got a little cocky later on. Tried to show us how low he could fly, and found out...
Rumor also has it there was some old guy flying (?) a glider who appeared to be asleep. He was so lazy, he asked someone else to buy his raffle ticket.
