Float Flying at Deer Creek

SMAC members changed out their wheels for floats and headed down to Deer Creek State Park early Saturday for The Ohio Radio Kontrol Society (TORKS) float flying event. TORKS holds the event after Labor Day each year, and it's one of the few float plane events in the state. We had a fantastic time: friendly people, interesting aircraft, and a beautiful beach to fly from.  If you haven't flown a sea plane you are missing out on a fun and interesting aspect of the hobby.

Here's some photographs from the event. It's just a few of the many aircraft that were on the beach Saturday. I'll post a link later this week to an album with a wider range of photos from the event. Enjoy!

The Horizon Hobby masterpiece.

Danny W.'s kit plane- it's got a lot of hours on it! Um, and a few...mishaps.

This Cessna pilot GREASED it in every time.

The ubiquitous Carbon Cub. There were no less than four at the event!

The rescue crew. This Dynam Spitfire lost a float.

No event is complete without a Cub, and this was a nifty one. Many, many photos of it!

A Monocoupe! An uncommon model, and especially uncommon to see one on floats. It was the only gas-powered model at the event. Lots and lots of photos of this bird, too.

Next time you go on a guided fishing trip to Canada, beware of this aircraft. The pilot tends to do rolls, loops, and spins!

Passengers were scared stiff, and glad to be at the destination.

Four-stroke nitro power!

Like I mentioned...LOTS of photos of this beautiful model.

This PBY Catalina added to the diversity of planes at the event.
