CLUB NEWS

The new flyer for the SMAC Annual Swap Meet at Thanksgiving has been posted. It's available for download as a PDF or save it as a JPEG, for those that want to spread the news. We're hoping to avoid COVID-19 issues this year– fingers crossed!

Thanks to Dave S. for repairing  the shed trim. Wind likely loosened the roof trim and Dave kindly helped out.

KILLDEER SQUATTERS!

We have some squatters that moved into the shelter at the field. Please be careful not to disturb the killdeer nest that is under the the west end of the shelter.

MEMBER NEWS

Club member Todd P. spent the week camping at Joe Nall, and found a deal on a 1/3-scale Extreme Flight Extra 300. He put the model together at the event– complete with a 55 cc DLE engine, and Savox 1270 servos. He still has some servo work to do, so no maiden flight as of yet.

Jim R. and Steve B. debuted their Sig clipped-wing Cubs at the field earlier this month. Jim finally had the weather cooperate and finished the paint scheme on his fabric-covered model. Jim reports that the maiden flights went well, even with a windy day. Steve's model is the one with red stripes; Jim's model is yellow.

Dr. Balsa (a.k.a. Rick B.) announced the completion of the Top Flite P-39 Airacobra he was commissioned to build for Dave S.  We're looking forward to seeing this beautiful model take its first flight!

Take off that prop!

We all have read and heard the warnings about removing a prop from an electric model when working on the radio. Combustion engines will break a finger, no doubt, but electric motors do not stall when they hit an object and can cause some major damage before they can be turned off. Electric props tend to be sharp, too, and can cut like a knife. Unlike a combustion engine, you can run an electric motor without the prop in place and not harm the motor– no prop is needed.

WIND and RAIN

The weather hasn't been the best lately for flying, but we managed to get some flying time in last week. Here are a few highlights.
