The first Saturday of every month is SMAC's Fun-Fly. We get together for breakfast then head out to the field to fly. It might have been a tad windy this Saturday, Ken's electric Cub was dragged way out into the bean field and Rob's little 40 trainer was fighting the headwind, but it didn't have any effect on the big dogs that came out to fly:
Rick B. flew his excellent Extra in grand style- with some nice knife-edges, inverted passes, and a few times hanging it by the prop:

Yes- that airplane is upside-down, doing a a fast, low pass in true Barch style. |

A very pretty P-51 is prepped for its maiden flight. |
Dave S. braved the maiden flight of his P-51...a Toledo show deal-of-the-century...heart in his throat (who could blame him?). After buttoning on the wing and pumping up the retracts, he fired it up and handed the controls over to Rick for the first flight. There were no problems, so the second flight was entirely Dave at the controls. He put the beautiful bird through the paces- doing some rolls, Immelmans, and split-s maneuvers before bringing her safely down to Earth. Great job, Dave!

Down onto the mains and safe again on the runway. |
