SMAC NEWS

Our annual Christmas party was last Tuesday. The raffle is one of the most anticipated events of the year, with models, tools, and cash prizes up for grabs.

Have you paid your dues yet? Our club budget is doing better than in previous years, but we still need everyone to ante-up their membership fees now so we can pay the upcoming field rental. Contact our Treasure, Joe Ferrara, for arranging payment.

The club member hangars are busy with modeling projects. Dr. Balsa is giving a giant scale Hanriot HD-1 biplane a new lease on life. He finished stripping the covering today in preparation of a new fabric skin.

Nekkid!

David S. is putting the finishing touches on his Topflite P-39. What a slick looking model. He just finished painting the inside of the flaps red. When is the maiden flight, David?

No ARF or foamie comes close...

David has also been working on getting his big Supercub checked over and ready for sale.

Nice, David...how much for the pretty bird?

What to do with the wreck of an E-flight Draco, especially one with dings, dents, hot glued-rips, and loose decals? How about strip it and take it back to being an abused Wilga 2000. This one has been ferrying sightseers over Chernobyl!

So it's a little dented. Still flies, no?

Do you know about gel-coated fiberglass? ARF cowls are commonly molded with colored resin, so that the cowl has a glossy, unpainted finish. Once a cowl gets some age on it- squeezed a few times, vibration from an engine, exposed to fuel and ultraviolet light- the gel coat can develop cracks. If your cowl is like this, then you are going to have a job on your hands. More to come about how to repair a cracked gel-coated cowl.

Cracked!
