Another moment in history...

 1977 - SPRINGFIELD, O.

It was a typical Ohio summer- first, a day of gusting wind, followed by torrential evening rainstorms and tornados, finishing up with an oppressive, muggy, 92º day.

The Springfield Model Airplane Club, Springfield Stratohawks,  Western Ohio Radio Kontrol Society, along with the Civil Air Patrol and many others helped the Academy of Model Aeronautics to host the tenth annual World RC Aerobatics Championship at Municipal Airport. There were a few competition events held in Columbus and Dayton that year, but the main event was in Springfield. Teams from 24 countries competed in the event, with the U.S. team wining overall.  Dave Brown came in second place to Hanno Prettner of Austria in the individual competition.

Hanno Prettner poses with his wining aircraft. Thanks to SMAC member Jim Ruley for contributing the photo and backstory about the event. Jim's Civil Air Patrol unit was one of the volunteer organizations helping out on that day.

Check out the list of  names that won slots on the U.S. team.
