OPEN FOR THE 21' SEASON!
The grass has been cut and rolled– time to fly! Thanks to all the members who helped make the field opening happen last Saturday. The runway is as smooth as a putting green.
Be aware that the runway orientation has changed. You will notice the direction of the mowing pattern and the white flags. Please don't stand at the old flight line or you'll be out in the runway! Once the grass has a chance to grow more it won't be such an issue. Until then, check out where you are standing while others are at the field.
SPRING ANNUAL INSPECTION– Time to inspect your mechanical and electrical systems. Your models are small aircraft, and their operation should be treated just like the full-size birds. If you give your models a thorough check before coming to the field, you are less likely to bring it home in a bag, or have to make questionable field repairs. Check props, linkages, hinges, servos, and fuel systems. Run your engine up. Do a range check of your radio system (this one most folks skip, and shouldn't). Don't assume that everything is ready, just because it flew OK last time!
Be sure to check your batteries, too. You should check the internal resistance of your Lipo batteries, and replace any that have high resistance or large differences between cells. Puffy Lipo batteries are damaged and should always be replaced. Don't risk your model and your home on a damaged battery!
MEMBER MODELS
Check out the new build by our prolific builder, Jim Ruley. He scratch-built this 1/6th scale Hanriot HD-1 from plans. The only parts he didn't fabricate are the cowl and wheels. Nice job as always, Jim!
